Sales Executive Level 4 - Frequently asked questions

No, anyone over the age of 16 and not in full-time education can undertake an apprenticeship. Perceptions of apprenticeships as entry-level, trade-based, low-quality courses persist – yet this couldn’t be further from today’s reality. From sales professionals to senior management and leadership, there’s an apprenticeship for everyone.

There are no specific qualifications required to begin an Apprenticeship.  However, you do need to have passed your GCSE (or equivalent) maths and English at grade C or level 4 to be eligible.  For those that have not passed, or are unable to provide evidence of passing, Gi Group will run a diagnostics to determine eligibility and build an additional Functional Skills training plan where needed.  It is a requirement by the Department for Education of all Apprenticeships of level 3 and above that Functional Skills of Level 2 is passed.

Yes, having a higher level qualification does not automatically exclude you from undertaking an apprenticeship. We undertake an initial assessment with all of our potential learners to ensure that the apprenticeship is the right fit for them and they will benefit from both the content and the development during the apprenticeship.

The programme focuses on helping people master the core competencies needed to sell professionally, successfully and consistently and covers:

  • Customer Engagement
  • Product Knowledge
  • Identifying Customers’ Needs
  • Questioning and Listening Techniques and Structures
  • Objection Handling
  • Closing Techniques
  • Understanding Customer Value
  • Sales Planning and Preparation
  • Presenting Solutions
  • Time Management
  • Developing and Managing Key Accounts
  • People, Personalities and the Psychology of Selling
  • Digital Selling
  • Value Driven Negotiation

It is a requirement of the Apprenticeship that you spend at least 20% of your time focusing on the knowledge, skills and behaviours that are relevant to your learning and progression.  This is usually one day a week, however Gi Group can build a flexible plan that ensures Apprentices continue their development through a range of activities that are delivered flexibly over the duration of the apprenticeship, depending on the demands of the business and the apprenticeship. A flexible plan could involve spending 1 week in 6 focused on learning activities, or 1.5 hours a day for example. Any Functional Skills training will be over and above the 20% minimum Off-the-Job requirement.

100% yes. We will work with both you and your apprentice to develop the OTJ plan, to ensure that they have your full support and that you have a full understanding of the commitment that they are undertaking.

Successful apprentices will gain the UK’s first recognised professional sales qualification equivalent to foundation degree/HND.

Successful apprentices will also receive a Sales Certification at Level 4 with the Association of Professional Sales (APS), as well as the use of designatory letters and APS logo to enhance their professionalism and stand out from the crowd. Apprentices will also have access to all APS events, webinars and partner events picking up tips, advice and techniques to help them in their role and to network with peers.

Those new to sales and more experienced sales professionals
